Scout Data plugin privacy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
This page explains how the Scout Data plugin for Claude and ChatGPT handles data. Our full Privacy Policy also applies.
What the plugin does
Scout Data finds contact details for people in the United States and facts about US homes. You give an address, a phone number, an email address, or a name with a location. You get back names, phone numbers, email addresses and an address, the owners of a home with their mailing address, or the facts of a home. You can also check whether a phone number is on record for a person at an address, or look up the business listed at an address, its owner and its officers on file with the state business registry. You can look up one person, household or home, or a list of up to 1,000 rows. If a phone number was wrong, you can report it and get another number for the same person when one is known.
What you give us
- The lookup details: the address, phone number, email address, name and location, or business name and location you search for, or the rows of your list, with the phone numbers and email addresses you already have when you ask to fill only the missing values.
- Your account details when you sign up: name, email, and company.
- We receive only the lookup details that Claude or ChatGPT sends to us. We do not receive your conversation.
What we return, and about whom
For each lookup we return, when we find them, about the residents of the address or the person you searched for:
- full name;
- phone numbers, with the phone type when known;
- email addresses;
- an address;
- the job, gender and age, when the record has them.
A property lookup returns the facts of a home: property type, year built, square footage, beds and baths, lot size, value and last sale. An address lookup lists the owner names on record apart from the residents and marks each person as owner or not. Where owners appear, we return the owner's mailing address when it differs from the home, and whether the home is owner occupied. An owner check returns the owner names on record, and yes or no when a name is given. A phone check returns yes with the person on record, no, or that the number is on record for another person at that address. A business lookup returns the business listed at that address (name, category, phone, website), the owner on record and whether it is a company, the owner mailing address, whether the home is owner occupied, and the officers on file with the state business registry (names, titles, city and state); when you ask for contacts, we also return the officers' contact details. A nearby search returns the nearest homes with the contact details of their residents.
If a name matches more than one person, we return only names and locations so you can pick the right one. We never return the raw records behind a result.
Where the data comes from
Results come from public records and licensed data sources. Records can be incomplete or out of date.
What we keep, and for how long
- Your account: name, email and company, kept until you delete it. See Delete your account.
- Your lists: the rows you sent, the outcome of each row, the first 20 result rows, and a result file with every row and the contact details found for it.
- Contact results for an address: reused for 30 days, so a repeat lookup is fast. We also keep an archive copy of these results to run the service; it has no fixed end date. Empty results are not kept. These copies hold the record, not who asked for it. Results for a phone number, an email address or a name are not written to storage.
- Single lookup results: the people and phone numbers of each single lookup are held in server memory for up to 7 days, so a wrong-number report can be answered. They are never written to a database or a file, and a server restart clears them.
- Credit entries: each grant, charge and return of credits, with the number of rows. They hold no lookup details.
- Lookup history: every lookup attempt, including refused ones: the date, the user, whether it came from Claude or ChatGPT, the kind of lookup, the outcome, the number of rows and the credits used. It never holds the address, name, phone number or email address you searched for.
- Paid records: the internal ids of the properties and people your account has paid for, so each is charged once. They never hold the address, name, phone number or email address you typed.
- Wrong-number reports: the phone number reported, the lookup or list it came from, the name of the person when given, the user, whether it came from Claude or ChatGPT, the time, the result, and the numbers given in its place. A report of a number your account never received is not stored.
Lists and their files, credit entries, lookup history and wrong-number reports are kept as long as needed for billing, support and abuse review.
Your list file and its link
A list result is saved as a CSV file in our cloud storage. The link in the chat points to our server and works for 24 hours. Each time you open it, we check that it belongs to your account and create a new download link that works for 15 minutes. After 24 hours, ask the chat for the list result to get a new link.
Sign-in and billing
You sign in through our identity provider. We never see your Claude or ChatGPT password. New plugin accounts get 10 free credits, and sign-up needs no card. Each matched result uses one credit: a lookup or list row that finds a match, a property found, an answered owner check, an answered phone check, a business or a company owner found, or a nearby home with contacts. A lookup that finds nothing uses no credit. A wrong-number report uses no credit and gives no credit back. We record credit use in our usage-billing system. Card payments, if you add credits later, happen on your Scout Data account page and are processed by Stripe, never inside Claude or ChatGPT.
Analytics
We use product analytics to see which tools are used, how often, and how many credits they use. We do not send the people you search for or the results to our analytics tools.
What Claude and ChatGPT keep
The results appear in your chat. Anthropic or OpenAI store your conversation under their own privacy policies.
Acceptable use
Use Scout Data only for lawful business contact. Do not use it to harass, stalk or track anyone, or to decide on credit, employment, insurance, housing or tenancy. Scout Data is not a consumer reporting agency. We limit lookup volume and may suspend accounts that break these rules.
If you are a person in our results
You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to remove your contact details from our results. Email [email protected] with your name and at least one of: your address, phone number, or email address. We may ask you to confirm the request. We answer within 30 days. Once removed, your details no longer appear in Scout Data results, including in Claude and ChatGPT.
