Two things make TLOxp pricing hard to research. The first is that TransUnion does not publish it. The second is that the product answers to two names, so half the material you find is filed under the other one. Sorting the names out takes a paragraph, and it changes what you search for next — so start there.
Disclosure: Scout Data is our product; treat that entry as a maker’s pitch and the rest as our honest read.
TLOxp, TruLookup, and why you see both
In February 2023 TransUnion announced a rebrand of its business solutions, reorganising a large catalogue of B2B products into a smaller number of named solution lines. TruLookup is the investigative line that came out of that exercise. TLOxp is the platform it is delivered through, and it kept its name.
The practical upshot for a buyer: “TLO” remains the term the market actually searches, a quote may arrive under either label, and seeing TruLookup on a proposal does not mean you have been moved onto something new. It is worth confirming which modules the proposal covers rather than which brand is on the cover page, because that is where the real variation lives.
What sets the number
Like the rest of the credentialed investigative category, TLOxp is quoted rather than listed, and the quote is assembled from your profile rather than read off a shelf. The inputs, in roughly the order they matter:
| Input | Effect on the quote |
|---|---|
| Credentialed permissible uses | Decides which data you can see at all; restricted sources cost more because they carry obligations |
| Report and search types enabled | A basic locate and a full multi-source report are different products at different prices |
| Committed monthly volume | Moves the per-unit rate down, and introduces a minimum you pay in slow months |
| Licensed users | Each user is credentialed individually, so a team is not one licence used several times |
TransUnion does not publish list pricing for TLOxp, so this page quotes no figures. Confirm current terms with the vendor, and with our sales team for Scout Data.
The minimum matters more than the rate
Buyers negotiate hard on the per-search rate and then sign a commitment that quietly decides their actual annual spend. If your work is seasonal — storm restoration is the obvious case — a monthly minimum sized to your busy quarter is charged in the quiet ones too. Model the contract against your worst three months, not your best one. A slightly higher rate with a lower floor frequently beats the reverse over a full year, and it is the term least likely to come up unless you raise it.
Comparing it against the neighbours
TLOxp, idiCORE and Accurint sit in the same category and none of them publish rates, so a paper comparison is not available to you. What is available is a sample test: run the same few hundred real records through each during evaluation and score resolution and right-party connects rather than reported match rate. How the two closest products differ in day-to-day use is covered in idiCORE vs TLOxp, and the same no-rate-card logic shapes idiCORE pricing and Accurint pricing. To turn any quoted rate into a number you can compare, use the skip tracing cost calculator.
Where Scout Data fits
List Builder is not an investigative platform and does not try to be. It handles the volume case: which homeowners to call, and a number that reaches them. Audiences come from live property signals — storm exposure, permit activity, roof and system age, ownership change — and ship with phones matched by name to the owner of record, scrubbed against the federal do-not-call registry before delivery, with dead numbers replaced. No permissible-use gated data means no credentialing review, and pricing per record rather than per search. The same graph is queryable per-record through the API.
Frequently asked questions
Is TLOxp still called TLOxp, or is it TruLookup now?
Both names are current, and they are not synonyms. TransUnion announced a rebrand of its business solutions in February 2023 that grouped products into named solution lines. TruLookup is the investigative solution line; TLOxp is the platform through which it is delivered. So you may be quoted under either name depending on who you are talking to, and neither one indicates a different product.
What does a TLOxp search cost?
TransUnion does not publish a rate card for it. Pricing is set in a contract after a credentialing review, and moves with your permissible uses, the report types you enable, your committed volume and your seat count. Figures circulating on comparison sites are other companies’ contracts at unknown dates, which is why we do not repeat them here.
Can a roofing or solar company get a TLOxp account?
Usually not for the restricted data, and that is the question to settle before discussing money. Investigative platforms gate access on permissible use, and marketing or general sales prospecting is not typically among the qualifying ones. Our TLO alternatives guide covers what home-services teams end up using instead.
